Can you survive? Or Will You be Dead by Daylight?

In this horrifying board game, three survivors attempt to repair generators in order to power up their escape route. However, an invisible killer roams the game board, only appearing when right beside their victim. It's an exciting and terrifying cat & mouse game.

Game Design

Making a board game means that it's really easy to turn your ideas into a concept. In the first day alone, we had prototyped four different versions of a Dead by Daylight board game. One thing we learned early on was how clear the instructions for a table-top game needed to be. The player wasn't allowed to misunderstand anything otherwise they wouldn't be able to play the game. It's not like a video game where you can just figure it out.

Board Design

Once we had the game figured out it was time to do my specialty, level design. Or in this case, board design. Items and generators would be placed on specific tiles, but the player had to be careful because some tiles could only go one way. If a player wasn't careful they could be trapped.

Testing The Game

All good games have gone through extensive testing, and board games are no exception. We tested every iteration of the game board at least three or four times.

Finalized Game Board

After finding the right balance of items and places where the player could find themselves in a trap, we added art to the board and finalized it's design.

It was a lot of fun seeing the reactions to our game. Players were really taking their time to plan out the different possibilities as to where the killer could be and strategize.
